Jackson County property tax appeals process receives 'poor' rating from state auditor

Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick rated the Jackson County Board of Equalization's 2023 appeal process 'poor': 'The bottom line is taxpayers in Jackson County got a raw deal.' Findings include unsupported Assessment Department testimony accepted while homeowners were required to document, and 35 percent of reviewed cases lacking the required seven-day hearing notice.
