The 1857 Rochester pamphlet printing of the Canandaigua speech. The Out-Caste Doctrine’s third epigraph (“If there is no struggle there is no progress…”) is from this speech; verified against the full speech text 2026-08-12 and again 2026-09-02 (receipt-gate, against BlackPast’s full reproduction). This record was filed 2026-09-03: the epigraph had stood on the page since publication with no source record behind it. Trust tier: primary. Note the pamphlet’s own title page dates the address August 4th; the essay gives 3 August 1857, the date most editions carry; the discrepancy is in the sources, not in the quotation.
