Enacted as S. 3655, signed December 5, 2022. The Act amended Section 5(n)(1) of the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Collection Act of 2018, replacing the Review Board’s original four-year term with a seven-year term. The extension was necessary because appointment delays left the Board unable to complete its work within the original window. With the statute’s option for a one-year extension, the Board’s authority runs to no later than January 8, 2027, a statutory sunset on the body that adjudicates every postponement request.
