On July 22, 2025, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors authorized a Russell City Redress Fund of roughly $1 million, drawn from supervisors’ discretionary budgets (reported as $750,000 from the county plus $250,000 pledged by the City of Hayward), “to fund direct payments to victims of the community’s destruction.” It predates the June 30, 2026 reparations action plan by eleven months, and is the county’s first appropriation of money toward Russell City redress. For scale, the county sold the cleared Russell City land for $2.4 million in 1968.
