Reports the Alameda County Board of Supervisors’ formal apology to the descendants of Russell City’s displaced residents, brought forward in a resolution by Supervisor Nate Miley with Supervisor Elisa Márquez: “The board passed the resolution unanimously.” The article says the supervisors apologized “to previous residents and descendants of Russell City.”
The county’s own account: Supervisor Márquez’s letter to the Board for its August 4, 2026 meeting says “On June 27, 2023, our Board approved a resolution (Item No. 87.1) sponsored by Supervisors Márquez and Miley, members of the County’s Ad Hoc Committee on Reparations, recognizing and apologizing for the County of Alameda’s role in the displacement and destruction of Russell City during the 1950s and 1960s.” Letter: https://www.alamedacountyca.gov/board/bos_calendar/documents/DocsAgendaReg_08_04_26/GENERAL%20ADMINISTRATION/Set%20Matter%20Calendar/Supervisor%20M%C3%A1rquez_409832.pdf (read October 1, 2026). The resolution text itself was not retrieved.
