The university’s own history page. It names Booker T. Washington “the first teacher and Founding Principal,” gives the founding date as July 4, 1881, and credits George Campbell and Lewis Adams for their roles in the founding. Cited in the 2026-09-30 correction for “founding principal” in place of “founder.”
