The county’s own record of what the Board did with the reparations action plan. It settles what press reports rendered five different ways.
The motion, verbatim (minutes, item 77): “Supervisor Miley made a motion, seconded by Supervisor Márquez, to receive the Alameda County Reparations Commission Final Report and Recommendations, sunset the Alameda County Reparations Commission, effective 6/30/26, and establish a Reparations Standing Committee to continue advancing, monitoring, and advising on the implementation of reparations-related policies and initiatives in Alameda County. The motion passed with 5 Ayes.” Thirty-nine people spoke on the item.
The letter, verbatim. “Acceptance of the report will formally transmit these recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for future consideration and action.” On money: “Any funding required to support the Standing Committee will be brought forward through future budget and administrative processes. Acceptance of the Final Report and establishment of the Standing Committee do not require additional appropriations at this time.” The proposed committee has seven members, five appointed one by each Supervisor and two at large, meeting quarterly.
The count. The attached June 2026 report: “the Commission presents 44 recommendations across 12 focus areas.” The April draft carried 43. Recommendations 1.1 (down payment assistance and right to return) and 1.3 (direct compensation for victims of unjust property takings) are in the June version.
Caveat. The minutes are the Clerk’s draft as posted for approval on July 14, 2026; an approved version was not located. The motion text matches the letter’s three recommendations word for word.
