Roll Call’s report on the House and Senate passage of Tennessee’s new congressional map on May 7, 2026. It carries two statements, verbatim. State Representative Justin Pearson, on the state House floor: “What you are doing today is eviscerating the only Black-majority congressional district in our state because we are majority Black.” Representative Steve Cohen, on social media the day before the vote: “It’s a blatant, corrupt power grab that would destroy the Black community’s and our entire city’s voice.” Roll Call’s May 6, 2026 report on the proposed map carries the Cohen statement in the same words.
