The court historical society’s case page, read in full on 2026-09-16. It gives no birth or death dates for Elizabeth Jennings.

Correction noted 2026-09-25: this page says she was awarded “damages of $225” and “was also awarded $22.50 in costs.” The 1855 report of the verdict (New-York Daily Tribune, February 23, 1855) says the jury “agreed on $225, on which the Court added ten per cent. besides the costs,” so the $22.50 was that ten percent, not the costs. The archive follows the 1855 report.
