National Library of Medicine, Changing the Face of Medicine exhibition biography of Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831 to 1895): the first African American woman to earn an M.D. degree (1864); the only African American woman to graduate from the New England Female Medical College; her book is one of the very first medical publications by an African American.
