NASA, Christine M. Darden
NASA biography of Christine Mann Darden (1942-): came to NASA Langley in 1967 as one of the last of the generation of 'human computers'; after six years promoted to aerospace engineer, with a first assignment to write a computer program for sonic boom; doctorate in mechanical engineering, George Washington University, 1983; by 1989 the sonic boom group technical lead for NASA's High Speed Research Program; the first African American woman at NASA Langley to be appointed to the top management rank of Senior Executive Service; retired 2007; Congressional Gold Medal, 2019.
