The two filings that put the August 6 judgment on appeal. Both read in full on September 16, 2026.
The appeal, verbatim (ECF 301): “Defendant County School Board of Shenandoah County hereby gives notice that it appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit from the Final Judgment entered in this action on August 6, 2026.”
The fee stay, verbatim (ECF 306): the board asks the court to “stay litigation over attorneys’ fees and costs pending resolution of Defendant’s appeal. Plaintiffs do not oppose this motion.” It reports that plaintiffs moved on August 27, 2026 for “$10,528,270.81 in attorneys’ fees and $475,752.17 in costs (a total of $11,004,022.98).” The motion asks for a stay of fee briefing only. It does not ask the court to pause the order to rename the schools.
What was not found. As of September 16, 2026, neither the district court docket (entries through September 3) nor the Fourth Circuit docket shows an order staying the renaming. Entries 303 and 304 of the district docket are not in the RECAP archive and were not read.
