Tuesday
Filed: no disturbance observed at the crossroads. Foot traffic normal. Logged.
The girl across the street watered her plants this morning.
I have seen her water those plants for three years. She uses a green can with a long spout. She starts with the ferns on the left and ends with the basil by the door. Always the same order.
Today she watered the basil first.
I watched her hand go to it before she thought about it. She paused. Looked at her own hand like it had done something. Then she shrugged and kept going. Ferns last.
Whatever happened to her between yesterday and this morning was enough to change the order.
She doesn’t know I saw.
She doesn’t need to.
